The clock is ticking…

As you might know, yesterday, I was made aware of an online contest that offers pretty much a custom made dream for me: A summer job, living 2 and a half months in Reykjavik, and traveling to different countries through summer, using the Wow Air routes, to build an online travel guide for each destination!

I was planning on taking the weekend to relax, but my application is due by Monday, so I’ll have to postpone the lazying out a bit. I need to go downtown, and shoot some pictures and bits of film to (try to) make a two minute clip to post on YouTube.

Then I’ll have to put up my writen application. That will be the exciting part, because I have a lot to say… Mouahahaha! And I had an idea, going through the list of destinations offered by Wow Air.

I got to know a lot of people, through The Cove. From all around the world. A lot of you I never thought I’d get to meet one day, in person… But what if I showed up in your hometown for a couple of days? Would you be willing to give me a feel of your corner of the world?

Having a network of local spies would certainly be a good argument in my application. And I sure would love to mingle with you “live”… Given that I get picked, this could become some kind of “Cyranny on Tour” adventure 🙂

So here is the list of cities where I might land for a couple of days, if I win this contest. (very unlikely, but I won’t let it go without a good fight!) If you live in or nearby one of these cities, and would be willing to share your best local secrets with me (and the world), drop me a word in the comments!

  1. This sounds amazing! And I really hope you are able to do it, and finish the video montage etc.
    I guess you live in Canada so you can’t really include it. If I were you, anyways, I’d go to more places in Europe or Asian countries with this kind of opportunity. Still, should you wish t come visit Alberta’s capital city, you’re always welcome to come by. The mountains are so close in Jasper and Banff, and summer festivals are amazing.

    1. Well, unfortunately, since it is a worldwide competition, and I was made aware of it at the last minute, I have strong doubts… But it is fun to hope I will win anyway 😛

      Wow doesn’t fly to Alberta, but I might go there someday, another way! I’ll make sure to let you know 🙂

      2. Absolutely…. When I was a teen, I worked for my parents, and they had just started their business, meaning not many customers and a lot of free time. I used to call and participate to all the radio station contests, and regularly won prices… I won so often that the people working at the station almost all knew me by my name 😛

  3. Wow so many cool places! 🙂 Glad you’ll be visiting Poland too, thee’s a lot to see in Warsaw, such a pity that I live in a completely different part of the country so we wouldn’t rather be able to meet with each other.

    1. If I win, I’ll definately insist on going to Warsaw! Polland doesn’t get enough exposure, at least in my corner of the world… I don’t know much about it, but I’d really like to put Polland on the list of countries I’ve visited!!

  7. Boston…
    There’s a lot of US History here… but I’m not really into it. Probably because I’ve done it/seen it all. The Freedom Trail… American Revolution stuff, famous battle sites, Paul Revere.

    But I’m more likely to take you to shopping and food destinations… Quincy Market (all kinds of foods there in a giant food hall), Newbury Street (shopping, some fancy stuff I can’t afford but a really nice walk), Boston Common (a very pretty park with swan boats you can ride), museums (art, science, etc.), North End (Italian section with lots of amazing restaurants and bakeries). Outside of Boston, there’s Harvard Square in Cambridge (shopping, food, Harvard University), Salem (“the witch city”… witch museums, shopping/food, cool cemeteries), Kane’s Donuts (famous donut shop… seriously, I travel for food).

    Most of those aren’t really secrets… but I can think of a few more food destinations that might not be as well known. I swear, my life doesn’t revolve around food! Ooh, I also know a great mini-golf place. LOL

    There’s probably stuff I’m not thinking of. I am in my own little pod… I haven’t been to most of those places in quite a while (except the mini-golf place). I should do some of that stuff with my kids this summer…

  8. Toronto! I live about an hour outside of Toronto. Does that count? If you turned up here I would take you round the countryside and to the horse barn where I ride and possibly you could watch my coach ( a two time Olympian) ride her horse. But if you are looking for the quintessential city experience in Toronto I’m afraid I can’t offer that.

I love horses, and I’d really like to share that kind of experience with you 🙂 And what’s fun, is that win or not, meeting you isn’t impossible, because we don’t live that far away from each other. My best friend regularly goes to Toronto to meet a friend of hers, maybe someday I”ll tag along, and drive the extra hour… xx

  10. We are about an hour drive north of Detroit. Unfortunately I would be a horrible tour guide for the city. I actually proved this last week when I had to drive to down town Detroit to pick up my daughter who just moved there. On my way to pick her up I got turned around twice and since I don’t have as a smart phone had to stop and ask directions. After taking her back home I again ended up on the wrong street not knowing how to get where I wanted to be. Eventually I found my way out of the city and back to Home Sweet (country) Home.
    If your goal is to get lost in the city I’m sure I could help. LOL 🙂

  11. How exciting for you. You would be great at it. However, nedd I mention WY is no t on your list? I could arrange to be in Denver where my son lives with his wife from France, an interpreter….just sayin’ ;.) °♡
