Did I ever mention how awesome Danes are??

I know.. I know… There are a**holes everywhere on the planet. I am aware of that. There are a couple of those in Denmark too, but I have a feeling Danes will find a way to cure them, if they haven’t already!

Ok, what is this all about, you might wonder? Well well well, my dear Lovelies, this started a couple of days back. Remember when I wrote Letter to Margrethe II? Some people mentionned I should really write to Her Majesty, Queen of Denmark.

I don’t think anyone actually dared me, per say, but I felt as if the challenge was on, and yesterday, I sat down, and wrote a little letter to Queen Margrethe II. I told her about my love for Denmark, my recent trips, and sent her my best wishes…

I knew the chances that my little note would reach the Queen’s attention were slim to none. So I wrote an introduction to whoever would recieve my message, that I would feel like the luckiest girl on earth if it ever happened, although I understood that Her Majesty probably had no time for a nobody like me…

I was celebrating my 40th birthday, but my inner child argued that I had nothing to lose, by sending my letter. The worst that could happen, would be no reply at all. If I didn’t send it, I was sure never to get an answer!

I sent it.

And four hours later (four hours… Wow! And note that I received the email a little before 10h am – Danish time – so that was extremely quick) I got the following note:

Dear “my name here”,

Thank you very much for your kind letter to Her Majesty, and for your interest in Denmark.

Also, we want to wish you a happy 40th birthday.

Yours Sincerely,

Mrs X. (well not X, but you get what I mean)

Secretary at the Lord Chamberlain’s Office

O.M.G!

How awesome is that?? After getting “liked” by Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign affairs (see post here) on Facebook, I have now received birthday wishes from the secretary at the Lord’s Chamberlain’s Office!!

Who knows… Maybe my letter could eventually make it to the hands of the Queen herself. Not likely to happen, but definately not impossible. I’ll be waiting to see, that’s for sure!

Now, you might have noticed a little detail in the above story… Yeah, I turned 40 years old on Sunday. I didn’t really want to mention it, because I didn’t want to bring the spotlight my way.  There were a lot of birthdays the past couple of days, and I much prefered celebrating these lovely people!

But… I had to tell you about my surprise. And now that you know, I also have to show you what Mom and her sister had designed, just for me!

They contacted Basties, a lovely business based in Trois-Rivières, my home town. Founded in 2014, Basties specializes in custom home decoration, and they make various items like quilts, duvet covers, fabric banners, t-shirts and sell pretty much anything that involve nice material, and sewing! Stéfanie took the challenge, and made a Danish flag duvet cover for me… You can imagine my surprise when I unfolded this wonderfull piece, after taking it out of the gift bag!

Not my bedroom…

Waking up for the first time under my Danish-colored bed cover!

I l.o.v.e it! It is just soooo pretty!! And so unique and one of a kind… and so me!! Sorry, nightmares, your days (nights) are over!!

So I contacted Stéfanie by Facebook, and here are the links to see more of Basties’ work, and get in touch if you’d like to order your own (not Danish-flag, but yours will be pretty too!) quilt or duvet cover  🙂

Pay them a little visit, you never know! You just might fall in love with their lovely work too!! And as a quote on their Facebook page says,

“When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a little happy dance!”

  1. You are probably unaware of a gentleman named Henry Root. Henry was actually the alter ego of Charles William Donaldson who presented himself, in this guise, as a retired English ultra conservative who frequently wrote to Royal Families, Ministers of Parliament, African Despots and so on, enquiring of their opinions as wide ranging as capital punishment and compulsory nudism. He would always enclose in his letters (these were the days of snail mail) a small ‘donation to the cause’ as well as a request for a signed photograph ‘for Mrs Root, who is a huge fan’, which obliged them to write back. The results are published in ‘The letters of Henry Root’ which is hilarious. I think it is out of print now, but I commend it to you.

    1. Thank you for bringing Mr Root’s “work” to my attention! I will definately make a little research about it… I did think about sending an actual letter, but time was counted. I might write again in the future, I’ll just wait a little bit to make sure I don’t look like a stalker 😛
Thanks again, Brutus… Always nice to read you 🙂 xx

Maybe all the orange kangaroos you have up there will eat them alive. 😉

    1. It is, indeed! Both surprises were pretty heartwarming 🙂 I am lucky Chéri liked the bed cover… I would have been sad if he had put a veto on it. I could have used it for the guest room, but it wouldn’t have been the same 😛

    1. I do feel very lucky 🙂 It was a very special day… Especially since lately, I’ve lacked energy a bit. The winter has been harsher than usual, and I am starting to really feel it….

  3. Ohhhhh how awesome for you 😀

Happy belated Birthday from me, too! And what great gifts! I actually bounced a little in my chair when I read about the letter, and the duvet cover is merveilleux!

I shall have to cave after all and take a trip to the “Daenisches Bettenlager” to get my dream duvets. Who cares if I probably come home with 20 more things and a maxed out credit card, it’ll be worth it…
