Important warning…

football-FA.jpg

This is an important warning for all North American women who, like me, don’t know much about, and don’t understand the rules of football. You need to read this. You can thank me later…

It is a surprise for no one, tonight is Super Bowl night! (said with much echo and a deep deep voice)

For a lot of North American men, Super Bowl night seems to be like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and their birthday wrapped together! In short, the average North American man gets really excited when this ultimate football game is about to take place.

I am lucky. Chéri has no real interest in the Super Bowl, per say. But (there’s always a but) he does enjoy to see the last minutes of the game. And here comes my advice…

When your better half asks you kindly if you two could switch channels to watch the last five minutes of the game, be cautious. Is he talking about the last five minutes of playing, or the the real last five minutes of watching this circus?

A couple of years back, I thought I had signed up for the latter. I thought “of course, dear, we can switch for five minutes, no worries!” But little did I know that football was a time stretching game, and that with five minutes on the big bright bilboard, I was in for forty five minutes of fun!

It is absolutely amazing to see how much gathering around, making intricate plans to move the ball a few feet further on the field, then running to actually play for, maybe, fifteen seconds, and then piling all up, and retrieving to the side of the playground to brainstorm about a new attack, can happen in just five minutes left of actual “playing”. It seems like a time out festival, and I just wanted to tell the crowd to stop cheering, because it seemed to encourage both team to make things last forever….

So just don’t get caught off guard, if your loved one pops up the big question, and ask him to be more precise… And if your boyfriend, or dear hubby is into watching the whole thing…

My sympathies!

  1. I’m an American male and I don’t give a fuck about football. Just saying. I think it’s some of the stupidest shit ever. I just don’t get it.

Give me NASCAR, IndyCar or F1 racing any day of the week. That’s my jam.

      1. Oh yes, me too. There’s a 1.5 mile oval race track very close to where I live. I hold season passes. I go to all the races they hold – they hold two NASCAR events per year as well as an IndyCar event and sometimes they host dirt track racing and they might have even had F1 out there a time or two.

      2. Awww lucky you! I love watching races “live”… IndyCar is probably my favorite. I love the sound of the engines… Quite a thrill!! Have a thought for me next time you attend one! 🙂

      3. I don’t follow closely enough to have a favorite as of lately… too much going on, I just watch races if I happen to catch one by chance… I liked cheering for Alex Tagliani since he came from Québec 😛 But back when I watched a lot of racing, I usually went for the underdog… I’m just like that LOL I remember one year, in my hometown, we had an IndyCar race, and I was rooting for a japanese man (Hideki Noda, if my memory is good) and after the race, everybody rushed to the big names’ stands… I was pretty much the only one who went to talk to him, and it seemed quite happy to have at least a fan in that little Québecois city 😛

  2. We don’t watch tv, and my spouse is likely to either watch this online if it doesn’t cost money to do so, or just see reruns later. I know it can be A Big Deal, and ideally I would just let whoever wants to watch it watch it without me, or would stick my head in once in a while to see it. Last year Lady Gaga did great at halftime, so very athletic and professional. That impressed me more than the game, of which I recall nothing!

    1. I do enjoy the halftime show too… There is a silver lining in everything 😉

I am glad for people who enjoy football, it must be quite a fun night for them… But I’d rather stay away from it too… Not for me 🙂

      1. I do like the snacks though. I recall a lot of unwholesome tasty greasy snacks that I never eat otherwise. We are vegetarian and eat organic, and I found there are lots of good organic vegetarian snacks that are yummy and bad for me. Today might be a good day for those…!

      2. See? Another positive thing! Though I won’t be enjoying Super Bowl snacks myself, because chéri doesn’t “celebrate” this game a lot of men do… We did try to have food delivered to save ourselves the cooking one year, but the restaurants were so busy with Super Bowl fans wanting their chicken wings and pizzas, that we waited for hours… Tonight is going to be a normal homemade meal for us 😛

      3. That makes sense. I think it is probably among the very busiest days for home delivery for food, now that you mention it. I think my idea of wild snacks is the blue cheese (unsure what kind since it may have been there a while–I’ll have to check) in the fridge, on the lentil stew I made. That, or other melted cheese, satisfies the cheese urges.

  3. George is watching Victoria with me tonight. He has no interest in the super bowl which he says is just a means of advertisers charging a bazillion dollars to show ads no one wants to watch.

    1. Hehehehehe for some reason, I had a feeling George wouldn’t be a big football fan! I am thankful chéri isn’t really either… I learnt to like hockey when I met him, but footbal is a big no-no! LOL

  4. Hahaha! You sound like my wife. But, she’s lucky, in two respects. Firstly, I’m not a religious sports watcher, with the exception of when my beloved alma mater is playing a football or basketball game, so she rarely has to endure more than a few hours per week of sports. Although, we do have season football tickets, and that entails 6-7 half-day affairs including tailgating prior to and after the game. But I’ve turned her into a fan of such activities, because it’s more like a social event/party than just watching on tv. Secondly, she’s been in Seattle since Thursday and returns home this evening, so we’ll likely be doing other things than watching football tonight. 😃😃

    1. 🙂 Well your wife must be a very wise woman! Not that I doubted that before… 😛 I do get the social part of the fun, I am just not willing to watch a game to enjoy it 😛 Maybe I could stay in the parking lot and wait for the rest of the gang, and catch up on my writing in the car… LOL

Soooo… we’ll all know what you’re doing, if you don’t answer your messages tonight, right? *wink wink* A good evening to you, Sir 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. Ohhh rugby…. football’s close cousin!! I just don’t get why people get so emotionally envolved in games like that. I remember a trip I made with chéri, a couple years back. We had tickets to a hockey game in Philadelphia, and we were told to hide our team’s shirts in the parking lot, because locals could get agressive…. Whoa. It’s just a game, and we’re not even playing!! LOL

    1. Same here 🙂 We tape most of the tv shows we want to watch and skip all the commercials 😛 The only thing chéri and I always watch “Live” is our hockey games. That “has” to be live. Otherwise, it’s not fun LOL

      1. Mouarf!! Naughty lady!! 😛 Nahhh I really meant hockey games, but you can keep thinking otherwise, if it makes you giggle Hahahahahahahahahaha

  5. My not-better half doesn’t care about football… or any other sport. But we will probably have it on in the background while other life stuff is happening… We feel that we need to know what happens because of where we live… 🙂

      1. I’m not sure I could have married a football fanatic. I associate many negative qualities with guys like that. I won’t go into detail just in case I become offensive to someone… 😀 Open mouth, insert foot.

      2. LOL Here, football isn’t nearly as popular as in the States… I think most guys make such a big thing out of the Super Bowl mainly because it is a fun social happening 😛

I’ll use my imagination to keep you from having to suck on your toes, mouahahahahahahaha

    1. Ohhh you’re making me think of a long time ago Super Bowl ad that I just looooooove…. Makes me giggle everytime I watch it!

*I erased the link here, as per respect to Kate… I didn’t intend to offense her*

      1. lol I was just joking Cyranny .. thought you might have recognised it was tongue in cheek? I used to be part of the ad making factory in my younger days so I know how it works …

  6. It’s ‘football’ only in the sense the players have feet and there is a ball. It doesn’t even come close to sports played on the world stage (try debating that with someone who thinks you can have a world series of anything where only one or even no other countries even play or take the spot seriously …

Rugby, Soccer – even Cricket players probably touch the ball more often than gridiron players 😉

    1. Oh, I won’t debate this, that’s for sure… I don’t get anything about this sport 😛

Presently “watching” said 5 last minutes of the game… can’t wait ’till it’s over 😛 Why don’t they give them a ball each, if they want it this much, Mouaahahahahah

      Like

      1. They certainly need to be given at least one ball each, with all that padding its fairly clear none of them have any of their own !!! They could have an appropriately sized cotton wool lined wicker basket to carry it home in … safely …

  7. Oh dear …. American ‘football’ …. don’t get me started. But I do understand the agony of sitting through ‘the last few minutes’. I recall being trapped in a bar in Honolulu long ago where, even in those days, there were far too many televisions (i.e. more than none) waiting to talk to someone who insisted on watching it. I staggered out half drunk about an hour later and the bloody game was still going.

    1. Hehehehe… For a minute, I couldn’t help but try to picture you in that bar. Let me know next time you plan to go have a drink in Honolulu! I’ll arrange to go keep you company… I have a feeling that would give place to an interesting conversation! 🙂
